Do you know that just a little leaven (yeast, sin) will ferment the whole lump of dough (you)? Clean out (purge) the OLD leaven that you may be fresh dough, still uncontaminated, for Christ, our Passover (Lamb), has been sacrificed. Therefore, let us keep the feast not with old leaven, nor with leaven of vice and malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened (bread) of purity and sincerity and truth (1 Corinthians 5: 6-8; Exodus 12: 15-19).
How few there are today who keep their bodies morally clean; yet there are fewer still who keep their minds pure. As far as a sinner is concerned, he is destined by God to perish. Yet, he might still be saved, if he relies on a third party who can save him. Jesus is the third party. For, the righteousness of man cannot satisfy God; it is only when He sees His own righteousness that He saves.
Applying the blood of the slain lamb to the doorposts and lintel is something objective; whereas eating the flesh of the lamb is subjective (Exodus 12: 7,8). If you have put the blood of Christ (Lamb) on the outside by receiving Him as your Lord and Savior, but you have not eaten the flesh of the Lamb (all of Who He is), there will be little transformation in your life and you will not have the strength to be an overcoming believer. We must learn from the Passover experience; the firstborn did not see the blood on the doorposts, yet the death angel passed over. For God had said, “When I see the blood, I will pass over”(Exodus 12: 13). The Bible does not say, “If you feel saved you are saved.” No, it simply says that when God sees the blood (of His Son) He will save you. The children of Israel were not saved by their own merits, but because of the blood of the lamb. The Egyptians perished, not because of their evil deeds, but because they did not have the blood of the lamb. To the unsaved person I say, “Either you die or He dies! If you do not trust Him who died, you yourself must also die.”
Without the application of the blood, the purging out of the leaven will not save and justify anyone (Exodus 12: 15). Furthermore, putting on the blood without purging the leaven will not sanctify. It is sad today that although many Christians have the blood applied, yet few submit to having the leaven purged. It is only when Christians have learned to be satisfied with all their portion IN Christ will they be able to overcome all the world offers. As long as they are satisfied with the things the world offers, they are NOT satisfied with Christ. According to God’s Word; whoever sets his mind on things of the flesh is at enemity with God (Romans 8: 7), and whoever has friendship with the world is also at enemity with God (James 4: 4). What is pride? Pride is when one exalts oneself above a position he has actually attained.
Man is forever trying to gradually reform HIMSELF; but if we are saved, we are given NEW life. If that new life is given place to grow; it will spontaneously flow out. The NEW covenant is totally different from the OLD. During the time of the old covenant, man had absolutely no position before God; but under the New Covenant (under the blood) a position is first given to man—a position that never changes. This is truly great news! So, we see that refusing to purge out the leaven (things we are keeping even when we know we need to let them go under the blood) will not result in perishing with the rest of the world; but it will affect our entering the millennial kingdom (typified by Canaan). With the blood applied, one has eternal life; with the leaven purged, one gains the kingdom (1 Corinthians 5: 7, 8). “For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6: 20).
